NSA is pleased to announce that we have purchased a state-of-the-art "Lightning Prediction System"
APRIL 15, 2009. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
NSA Has Invested In a Hi-Tech Lightning Prediction System
THE THORGUARDIAN WEATHER WARNING SYSTEM
Rated as the best equipment available to predict and warn of lightning, it’s used by the PGA tour and other major outdoor athletic and entertainment venues. Safety of the players, spectators and staff has and always will be one of our main concerns at Norcross Soccer Association
No weather event is more dangerous than lightning. Because of this
threat, we have purchased and installed the Thorguard Lightning Prediction System.
This system can provide advance warning of a lightning hazard, allowing
players, coaches, referees and spectators the time to seek shelter.
The system continually monitors and evaluates the electrostatic
atmosphere and predicts the probability of a lightning hazard in an area
up to 15 miles away. More importantly, we have it set to provide us information
of the risk in the immediate area of our 5 playing fields and surrounding area of Pinckneyville Park Soccer Complex.
When the system detects the probability of lightning, we will be alerted by one very loud horn blast that will last 15 seconds. The horns can be heard all over the park!
Upon hearing the horns, everyone should seek shelter immediately.
When this occurs, strobe lights located on the top of the horns
will activate and remain active while under a weather alert. Every attempt should be made to seek shelter in a safe environment. The Thorguard system will then also determine when conditions are safe to return to your previous activities by sounding Three 5-second blasts in a row, and that will indicate everything is all clear and the strobe lights will also cease operation. Only then should you return to the field areas. The system antenna, horns and strobe lights are located mounted on the north
end of the concession stand roof, nearest field #2.
